Becoming A Proverbs 31 Woman – Week 1

Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman

Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman

Week 1

Proverbs 31:10-14 (ESV)

An excellent wife who can find?  She is far more precious than jewels.  The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.  She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.  She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.  She is like the ships of the merchants; she brings her food from afar.

Her Marriage

Proverbs 31:10 ~ An excellent wife who can find?  She is far more precious than jewels.

Okay, I have to admit, when I read this verse I like to think it means she doesn’t exist.  But it truly is the exact opposite.  She does exist, it’s simply saying she is a rare gem.  So she is someone we should be modeling our life after.

Proverbs 31:11 ~ The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.

Her husband trusts her completely, which is a very high honor if you ask me.  Trust is something you must earn, you don’t just automatically get it from someone.  Because he can trust her completely he is able to always move forward and focus on other areas (he doesn’t need to waste his time worrying about her and what she is doing).

Proverbs 31:12 ~ She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.

Do you notice it says “all the days of HER life”?  So, if her husband is the first one to pass away, she is still doing “good” for him (in his name).  She doesn’t run wild or talk bad about him.  She continues to keep his name held high.

Her Behavior

Proverbs 31:13 ~ She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.

Well obviously we are no longer going out and collecting up wool and flax to create clothing (in this country) anymore.  But I think what struck me here is she did this all with willing hands.  How many times do we do what we do for our family BUT we are doing it with a grumble?  I know I do it more than I would ever care to admit.

Proverbs 31:14 ~ She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar.

Again, grocery stores are on almost every corner here in The States so there is no need to go “afar”.  But I think this speaks to the fact that she was going afar to make sure she was getting the best food for her family.  Nothing but the best for her family!  For us today, that would be making sure our family has fresh, organic and non-processed foods I think.  We should want only the best for our family.

Even in just these 5 verses this Proverbs 31 Woman gives us a lot to live up too!  Her husband has complete trust in her (in all areas). Even after he is gone she is still working to do “good” for his name.  All that she does, she does it willingly – no grumbles from this woman.  She makes sure her family has nothing but the best food.  No wonder she is a rare gem – that is some seriously hard work!

My Prayer For This Week:

Lord, change me.  Grow me into this wonderful blessing of a woman.  Help me to earn that honor of complete trust from my husband and always bring good to him and his name.  Change my heart, O Lord, so that I will see the need for the absolute best food for my family and prepare it with a willing heart.  Lord, please take my grumbles from me.
