Becoming A Proverbs 31 Woman – Week 2

Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman

 Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman

Week 2

Proverbs 31:15-19 (ESV)

She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.  She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.  She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.  She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.  Her lamp does not go out at night.  She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.

This week we are going to continue studying about the Proverbs 31 Woman’s behavior.  I have to warn you this is most definitely an intimidating section.  Her behavior is absolutely amazing (and will show why the Bible says she is “more precious than jewels”).

Her Behavior

Proverbs 31:15 ~ She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.

Making sure her family has the proper food (for her entire house) is so important to her.  She is up before the sun!  I am so not a morning person so I really don’t like this verse!!!  But getting up and making breakfast and a packing a lunch for my hubby before he leaves for work each day – is a must!

Proverbs 31:16 ~ She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.

Well, I guess you could still be literally buying a field and making money from it.  But I don’t think that is actually an option for most of us these days.  I do think that today we could look at it as a business or maybe even buying stocks.  Either way she researched what she was about to spend money on and choose wisely.  She only purchased what she knew she would make money from.

Proverbs 31:17 ~ She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.

She is emotionally and physically strong.  Okay, major fail on this one for me.  I am an emotional and physical mess any more.  But if I was truly relying on God – I wouldn’t be!  So I think I know what I need to do – RELY ON GOD!

Proverbs 31:18 ~ She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.  Her lamp does not go out at night.

Her food, clothing and wealth were all profitable.  She would stay up late to make sure of it.  For me, I think it means that I cannot just say Oh, it’s bed time – goodnight!  If all that I need to do has not been accomplished yet. Well, not if I want to be profitable.

Proverbs 31:19 ~ She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.

Again, most of us are not going to be making our own thread these days.  So should we just skip over this verse?  Absolutely NOT!  She was not afraid to get her hands dirty and didn’t pass her responsibilities off to someone else.  To make sure her family had only the best (and most cost effective) she did it ALL herself!

Okay, who’s feeling convicted now (I ask while raising my hand)?  She really doesn’t get much sleep, yet she accomplishes so much AND does it with a smile.  Is anyone else starting to think Michelle Duggar IS the Proverbs 31 Woman?  I know I am.

After this weeks reading I have become so aware of the fact that I am not using my time management effectively.  I am always running behind on things lately and not getting what I need to do done.  This is definitely what I am working on now.  I am adding it to my “Do it with grateful heart list.”

My Prayer This Week:

Lord, help me to make good use of my time.  Help me to keep my eyes on you, grow closer to you, so that I can know what your plan for me is.  I want to take care of my family how YOU want me too and always do it with a grateful heart!!!

Are you studying along with me?  What did the Lord show you in this weeks 5 verses?  Please feel free to link up your blog post Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman – I would love to read them as well!
