Becoming A Proverbs 31 Woman – Week 3

Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman

Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman

Week 3

Proverbs 31:20-24 (ESV)

She opens her hands to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy.  She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.  She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.  Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.  She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchants.

This week we are studying the Proverbs 31 Woman’s Character: {one of the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual}. If you have been studying along with me you know this is all very intimidating and humbling.  It has truly made me examine myself and my actions so much closer.  Let’s continue to study and pray on how we can become this amazing woman.

Emphasizing Her Character

Proverbs 31:20 ~ She opens her hands to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy.
She was someone who was driven to take care of her family, but didn’t hesitate to extend that same nurture to the poor and needy.  This is definitely an area I need to work on.  I think I spend too much time thinking about mine and my families “needs” but no one else’s.

Proverbs 31:21 ~ She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.

She wasn’t fearful of what was going to come because she was a great planner and very organized.  She knew what would be coming and was ready for it.  She didn’t wait until the last minute.  (That last part is for me.  I have become a huge procrastinator).

Proverbs 31:22 ~ She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.

Fine linens and purple would have been expensive in her time.  Because of all her hard work and dedication she was able to have these fine things – as a reward.

Proverbs 31:23 ~ Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.

Her husband is able to advance in business because his home life is calm and orderly – he has no worries about their home or family.  She does so much for her husband, he is able to focus on his job, advance and make a name for himself.

Proverbs 31:24 ~ She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchants.

Not only did she do all we have read so far to take care of her family, but she also made items for profit.  She contributed financially to her household!

Oh my goodness – I am such a slacker!  So many times I sit back and complain about how things aren’t going the way I want or how something isn’t fair!  But I’m not even doing half of what this amazing woman did – and she did it all without Internet!

How can I complain if I’m not truly giving my all!

My husband and girls deserve my all!  This is what God has called me to do.  No excuses, no crying or complaining!  But do it all with a glad heart.  While taking care of her household she also helps the poor and the needy.  She is a great planner and is very organized – keeping herself and her family prepared for life.  She makes clothing and bed coverings out of only the finest cloth.  She contributes financially to her household by selling items she has made.  Because of all these things she does for her husband, he is able to prosper in business and make a name for himself.

She is an amazing woman and the ultimate role model!

My Prayer This Week:

Lord, I pray that you will give me that nudge when I am trying to be lazy and put things off.  Please help me to do all that I can to help my husband and our children in Your Name.  Father, I truly want to be this Proverbs 31 Woman – please help me to see what I need to change in me.  Lord, please change me!
