Becoming an Intentional Homeschoolin’ Mama – Teaching & Support

Well obviously we are all teaching our children being that we are Homeschoolin’ Mama’s.  But are we truly being intentional about teaching our kiddos?  Or are we just going through the motions?
I will admit that I have those days where I know that I am just going through the motions.  I’m sure we all do.  You know – your sick, having just the worst day ever and all you’re thinking is “Let’s just get this done!
I look at it this way – homeschooling as my job.  Now I don’t mean in the “Oh great I have to go to work today.” kind of job.  It’s the most important job I will ever have in my lifetime.  Raising my girls to be God fearing, well educated women is just…well…nothing has greater importance!  So, just like I did with my job in my former life BK (before kids) I try to keep up with all the latest and greatest when it comes to homeschooling.
Choosing the right curriculum for your children is key.  The curriculum will be different for each family and a lot of times for each child.  Click on the image above to see what we’re using this year in our homeschool.  If you want to see what we’ve used in the past go to my Homeschool page for all the links plus the link for our school room (which has changed since the move and will be updated soon).
Joining a co-op or meet up group is so important!  Having real life Mama’s who are homeschooling and understand your up’s and down’s is a wonderful gift to have.  If you’re new to homeschooling or to your area (like me) MeetUp.com  is a great way to find other homeschoolers!
Finding resources online can be overwhelming at times.  I have a few “go to blogs” that I follow on RSS and all the Social Media outlets.  These are bloggers that are great for support, resources, helpful tips and product reviews.  Here is just a small list of who I keep up with:

Like I said – these are just a few blogs I follow on a daily basis.  Keeping up with new ways to teach my girls, keeping their interest and love of learning alive and finding support and great deals online.  That’s why I follow these ladies!  These great blogs help me stay on the cutting edge of home education for my kids – priceless.  If you’d like to find more great homeschool blogs follow my board on Pinterest:  Homeschool Blogs I Love!

I do have a few books to recommend to you as well.  I truly do own everyone of these and have notes written on them.  These are my top picks for Homeschoolin’ Mama’s to read:

Teaching my girls is not just going through the motions and covering what the curriculum tells me to cover.  It’s putting down my phone, iPad, iPod and being in the moment with them.  FOCUSING on each girl as they reach their Ah Ha Moment! – each day’Being an Intentional Homeschoolin’ Mama is knowing this job is the most important job you have and teaching your children has a “No Quitting” policy!  So – keep researching, find support and Become an Intentional Homeschoolin’ Mama!

What do you do to keep on the cutting edge of homeschooling?
