Becoming an Intentional Homeschoolin Mama – Time With God

So you want to become an Intentional Homeschoolin’ Mama, huh?  Well, then you need to start by becoming intentional about your time with God!  You can’t expect Him to bless your homeschool if you’re not spending time with Him can you?

I truly believe this!  We always start our homeschool day by asking God to bless our day and show us what He wants us to learn and then dive into our Bible lessons.  I don’t see any other way you should start your day of learning!
But I need something for just me.  Something to fill me up and renew me everyday.  Let’s face it – life is hard and homeschooling is no exception.  I need that time with my Father to encourage me to keep going (some days more than others).
{Psalm 32:8}
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
First things first – you need to find the time to actually sit down and concentrate on reading, studying and absorbing God’s Words for you.  Being homeschool mama’s can make it extra difficult to do this sometimes.  I mean, we don’t have that free time while our kids are away at school, right?  We’re the ones busy teaching them!  So when are we going to find that quiet time to ourselves to FOCUS on His Word?  Start thinking  and praying about this – When can you make God your priority each and every day? We’ll be talking about planning tomorrow!
{Philippians 4:19}
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Today we are going to FOCUS on a couple of different ways we can study God’s Word.
S.O.A.P. Bible Study
This might be one of my favorite ways to study the Bible.  Amy from Mom’s Toolbox has one of the best explanations of this process I have found.  It’s nothing massive to take on and is a great place to start when you’re just beginning to FOCUS on studying God’s Word!

Read the Bible in 1 Year
Recently I came across Rachel Wojnarowski’s website and her fabulous Read Your Bible in a Year Challenge.  Check it out – she has a wonderful plan all lade out for you!  This is my FOCUS for 2013!  It’s a big challenge but I have always wanted to read the entire Bible and this is the year!  I have some printables for you to download.  Feel free to you them as pages to take notes on each of the Books of the Bible as you read them.  Or, if you’re really ambitious, you could use them to create your very own Journible (writing the Bible as you read it).  I’ve created a page for each book of the Bible (front and back) – so you can print them as you need them.

I also have a few websites I would recommend subscribing to.  They are in my email box every morning they’ve been a true blessing to me:  Hello Mornings, Good Morning Girls, A Holy Experience and Proverbs 31 Ministries.  I find each of these websites and women so encouraging and I hope you will too.  Go check them out!
Do you have a daily quiet time with God?
How do you find the time?
What are you’re favorite ways to truly study God’s Word?

  1. Thank you so much for spreading the word about SOAP. I honestly find it a great way to read and reflect on His Word. I am honored that you find my description clear and chose to share it with your readers. I hope it blesses them and you. 🙂
