Raising Proverbs 31 Women

Being Organized and Prepared

We are continuing our look at the excellent wife’s behavior.

  • What did she do that made her so wonderful?
  • What actions should we be teaching our daughters to strive for?
  • What was important to the Proverbs 31 Woman?

Proverbs 31:21-22{ESV}

She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.  She makes bed covering for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.

Her Behavior {Biblical Times}

She is one organized and prepared woman!  She is ready for what she knows may come.  She doesn’t wait until the last minute and yell “EVERY ONE HURRY!  IT’S SNOWING!!!”

Because of her gracious and selfless activities, she is blessed in life.  Because of her hard labor, the Lord affords her such costly goods for herself.  But notice she is still making her bed coverings – the material is what is “high end”.  She is still a good steward of her money.

So how should our behavior look TODAY?

Be prepared!  Be prepared for the changing season (which looks different for all of us), lean months financially, anything you know that is/may come your way be prepared!  Plan out your day and stick to your plan as best you can!   I think we need to realize that having the best doesn’t mean it’s going to just be handed to us.  Sure we work hard and then we expect to be able to afford the best.  But we need to pay attention to the fact that she was still making her own bed linens – the material is what was costly.  I can use my organic foods to make my family dinner and I need to see that as has the finer things in life!

How do we teach this to our daughters?

We need to teach our daughters to be organized planners!

  • Schedule their days: Breakfast, School, chores, etc.
  • Help them become organized: Toys go in the toy bin, hang clothes/fold laundry, school work goes in the right folder, etc.
  • Teach them how to use a planner.  Help them learn to keep track of their days and how/when to add in activities to each day.

Help our girls realize it’s not the newest gadget that’s on the market that makes you blessed.  Help her see that it’s the food on the table, the gifts she has made and the gifts God has given her – those are our blessings.  We need to help our daughters see what is actually quality versus “perceived value” and make Godly choices with her money.  This way she knows that God is blessing her purchases.

So how will YOU begin to show your daughters these behaviors? What can YOU share with us that is working for you?

*Monday we will continue with more of her behavior in Proverbs 31:23-24*
