Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman
Proverbs 31:25-31 (ESV)
Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
This week we are finishing up the chapter talking about her Family Life and Summarizing Her Spiritual Life. This has been so amazing and eye opening for me studying this woman. I know I will be coming to her often to see where I need to work more in my life!
Proverbs 31:25 ~ Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.
She is a strong and confident woman. Because of this she is able to laugh at anything the future may bring her. I love this verse talking about her being strong. I feel like, if you are a woman that takes care of your husband and your family as your priority, you are made to feel like you are week or even lazy. That if you stay home with your kids and keep your house in order that somehow you are not as strong as the women who are working out side of the house.
Proverbs 31:26 ~ She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
She shares what she knows but always in a gentle and kind way. This I think can easily be related to being a homeschool mom. Teaching your own kids is not always easy but keeping your patience and speaking to them gently is always where you should start. We should be teaching everything with kindness – no matter what.
Proverbs 31:27 ~ She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
She keeps her house and family running smoothly. This is her job and she is absolutely amazing at it. Because she is not lazy and just sitting around she is able to accomplish this. I have to admit. I am so guilty of this. I have a tendency to give up if something doesn’t go my way right away. Or say, I’ll just start over tomorrow, and accomplish nothing that day.
Proverbs 31:28 ~ Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
Can you imagine being such a Godly role model for you children that they call you blessed? You need to really work your tail off and stay focused on God and His Word for that to happen. But, I also see this verse as showing us as mothers, that because of this woman’s actions while raising her children – they too were Godly adults. There is an awesome goal for you!
Proverbs 31:29 ~ “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.”
WOW! What an amazing statement by her husband. She truly is the “excellent wife” from verse 10. I mean, could you get a better compliment from your husband?
Proverbs 31:30 ~ Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
We can put on all our make-up, style our hair, wear the latest fashions and be as sweet as can be to every one we meet. But, only a woman who fears the LORD deserves, has earned, praise! We need to make sure we are spending more time growing closer to God and listening to Him than anything else we do.
Proverbs 31:31 ~ Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
She receives rewards here on earth but her greatest rewards will be in her death. I think this refers to her legacy and her eternal life in heaven.
I realize this woman is a lot to live up to and I don’t expect to do this overnight – or even totally make it there altogether. But I truly do see her as my inspiration as a wife and mother – as a woman. I hope that you have enjoyed studying her along with me.
