The School Room Is Finally Done
Well, this took waaaaayy longer than I had planned. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I knew it would be a pain to try and get this room completed with a baby (who by the way is totally a Mama’s girl). But Oh My Goodness! This is really cutting it close.
But thankfully, it is finally completed and we can start school up tomorrow just as planned! So here are a few pictures of what I’ve been working on:
Welcome to Hykes Family Homeschool Room
Since the basement is tile flooring I decided to put down a fun cushy flooring for Baby Boo to play on while Roo and I get our learn on. Plus, that side of the room is doubling as my workout room and the extra cushy floor feels so much better to workout on (yes, I’m getting old).
The map in the corner is hung up by little eye hooks so I can change sides – United States on one side and the World on the other.
To put the border up on the wall I used wall putty on the back of some super cute alphabet cut out cards I found at Office Max. After I put them up (thinking I was scattering them) I realized they were only staggered. I am so not capable of being random!
Our art corner! I’m still going to buy some sort of drop clothe for under the easel but it’s good for now – we’ll just use crayons for a bit!
I found the cutest calendar/season/weather chart system at Office Max. It’s all a frog theme and a fantastic way for us to start our days off – Today is… Yesterday was… Tomorrow will be…
Even An Area For The Mama
Awesome find at Target (the same goes for the table and chairs)! All her books for the year plus my teacher manuals fit on here perfectly. Along with two bins: one for my supplies and one for Roo’s music class instruments.
Last but not least – our Health Puppets! Okay, this one is taking me WAY out of my comfort zone! I really do not like puppets! But I know my daughter loves them and I was reading in our Horizon Health Curriculum about how well kids learn when you use puppets. So here we go!
So that’s our new class room in a nutshell. We have never had one before and we are both so very excited to get started in here tomorrow. What a fantastic way to start the new school year! Later this week I will be posting about the curriculum we will be using this year and a few extras I’m throwing in! What a blast!
Where do you teach at home? Have a post about it? Feel free to leave a link back to it with your comments! Have a great year every one!
Love Life, Love God and Live For HIM …
Looks great!
Absolutely beautiful! Have a wonderful school year.
Wonderful!!!!
What a fantastic school space! Now we don’t have a room. 🙁 But our diningroom is where most of our current books and supplies are and the kids like to spread out on the big table. We also use the coffee table and sofa in the livingroom…and the table and chair set outside. And sometimes we pack everything up and head to the lake and school on a picnic table. I guess you could say we don’t have a specific area! LOL
Meg,
This is absolutely gorgeous! 🙂 Can you please, please come to my house? lol.
We are temporarily staying at my parents’ house while we are doing work on ours, so we school almost anywhere right now– dining room table, couch, outside. I did take a little section of their basement and made it up cute, but now things are more in boxes. Not sure when we’re going to be moving back home, so I guess I’m going to wing it for awhile. 🙂
What a beautiful and functional area you have for learning! Wonderful job! I don’t know if I could do puppets, but more power to ya! Haha!
beautiful room! I’m sure your children love learning there!
Take care!
Nothing like feeling organised to give the feeling of accomplishment and joy!
ps. the puppets scare me 😉
Great school room! I’m hs’ing 3 teenagers who really don’t use our “school room” anymore. Hence, no pics this year. Thanks for visiting me at A Season for All Things. I’m your newest follower. ~ Ellen
