Our Curriculum for 2011-1012

Yes, I know it’s a bit late posting this.  But that’s what the New Year is all about right?  Catching up on all the stuff you didn’t get done the year before!  So when you really think about it – I’m right on time!
Roo is in First Grade this year so our schedule is much, MUCH fuller than last year.  Throw in an adventurist baby and some days have been very overwhelming – down right crazy!
This is our third year of homeschooling: pre-K, Kindergarten and now First Grade.  Each year I have tweaked our curriculum a bit.  Thanks to so many of you Homeschoolin Mama’s out there, I keep finding more and more fabulous books, curriculum, unit studies and (new to me) this year lapbooks.  Thanks to ALL of you who share your homeschooling path with all of us – you have been a tremendous help!
Now on to our curriculum choices for the 2011-2012 school year!

Language Arts

This year we went with Sonlight once again for: Reading (2nd Grade), Read-Alouds, Spelling, and Writing.  Wordly Wise 3000 for Vocabulary and A Reason For Handwriting for Handwriting.
History and Geography
We once again went with Sonlight and we are studying World History Part 1.
Science
We started out the year with Sonlight’s Science.  But then I found out about Apologia and fell in love!  So we added in their Astronomy course!
Math
We are HUGE fans of Saxon Math in our house!  I can’t imagine ever using anything else!
Bible
Once I found Apologia I found our Bible Curriculum!  This has been a fabulous series!
Electives: Health, Art and Music
Horizons (from Alpha Omega Homeschool) for Health, Artistic Pursuits for our Art Class and Calverts Music Course.
Spanish
RosettaStone has the BEST language course hands down!
Extra’s: Federal Holiday’s (Month and Days)
Barnes & Noble was my best friend for most of this.  We are covering every thing this year: Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, National Women’s History Month, Asian-Pacific Heritage Month, and Native American Heritage Month.
So as you can see we have a VERY full schedule going on this year.  But, it’s been fantastic so far.  Roo is learning a ton and having fun doing it.  Now, if we could just get Boo to chill out some!  hahaha
